While many visitors come to this park to experience the incredible dark sky views at night, hiking their 5 miles of trails is a great reason to visit during the day.
There are many different interconnected trails in the park, giving you plenty of options for distance and terrain. The trails stretch across 600 acres of old growth forest and offer beautiful views of Lake Michigan. The terrain is mostly flat but there are a few hills and bluffs depending on which path you take.
The park is located 2 miles west of Mackinaw City. Enter off of Wilderness Park Dr and you’ll find a parking area for the trails. Head down the road about a mile and you’ll find another parking area at the waterfront pavilion, gift shop, and events center.
Check out the dark sky discovery trail, with signage dedicated to each of the planets in our solar system. Each planetary station includes the cultural history of humanity’s relationship to the planets.
Please be aware that, as a dark sky park, there are no white lights allowed at night.
